Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick Trendsetter

When Revlon announced their new suede range I was really interested in knowing how it would work out. I went all creative thinking that maybe they made a new finish that felt like suede you know how you get these different finishes in nail paints like the furry ones. I thought they made a breakthrough like that and was very excited about it. But it was not to be 🙁

Before getting into what was my experience with this let me just describe the basics of the product for you. The packing is nice. Made mainly of transparent plastic where half of it has a product colored plastic part inside. The combination of the black with the colored part looks eye catching. And the plastic is thick and does not have that cheap feeling.

The color is a pink toned red which looks like a soft red on the lips. It does not provide you a full coverage like a matte lipstick which is what it is supposed to be in essence. Coming to the texture of it….this is where things start to get tricky. When you first swipe it whether on the back of your hand or your lips you will find it to be very smooth and moisturizing. It needs 5 mins or so to dry and get to its proper texture. When that happens then it is not supposed to rub off and last you all day even with eating/drinking.

Now when the product dries so does your lips with it. I have dry lips and for me this is not comfortable. Even if I have moisturized them and then used this after a little while. The lines become pronounced and the skin feels stretchy. Once you give it time to properly set and by that I mean you keep your lips parted so that the air hits all part of it and you can feel it become dry, it does not get rubbed off and survives drinks. But it does not survive eating and starts to come off especially from the center of the lips.

It flakes then and starts stripping off. Poorna from Presented by P had warned me that it would do that. She had swatched it at the back of her hand and let it be for sometime. She found it coming out in flakes within half an hour. Knowing this I bought just one as I wanted to try out this new product for myself. Technically something that is supposed to last you for a long time does have a drying nature but if I forgive that aspect of it then it should have at least lasted me properly and not started peeling on first contact with food.

Honestly I’m glad that I just bought one of it. It is still money down the drain but I managed to cut my losses as I didn’t go splurging on it keep the advice of my friend in mind. I think you are better off buying a stain that provides you moisturization as well as durability than opting for this. Once again, this falls into the category of where Revlon got it wrong. Has been happening a lot with them and getting their stuff has become a gamble 🙂
