The Retro Matte collection is finally here! And it got all sold out before the day was even done…You might find a few pieces but it depends on your luck. Fights broke out here in Kolkata apparently over them 😀 Wow! Some people take their lipsticks very seriously and I advice you to approach with extreme caution. Jokes apart this collection has been the most awaited and has created a big stir even before it reached our shores. 

     I’m not a matte fan I will be very frank but when my friend Dolon of Pout Pretty got her hands on one when it was launched in Singapore she was all praise for the texture and the girl is a matte buff and knows her stuff. I actually went to the store to pick up the booked pieces for my friends and ended up swatching this shade. And you know the rest…I picked up a lip liner too which I will be reviewing later on.

     There is nothing special or unique about the packing and it is standard MAC fare. So without wasting time on those aspects I will move straight on to the texture and pigmentation. I do have one other matte lipstick from the permanent collection but that has been lying in my drawer since forever coz 1) it is red and 2) it is matte. I opt for the pinks, nudes and corals mostly for day wear and occasions are once in a blue moon kinda thing for me and even in those I don’t venture in this color zone.

     But the company I keep has affected me now and I’ve started eyeing and wearing deeper shades 😀 Well done it once so far but heck its a start. Being a matte it tends to unforgiving if you have dry lips and have patches. So you need to buff and moisturize them before putting this on. Having said that it is not as drying as the other matte one I have from MAC. The color is rich and very pigmented. Unlike Urban Decay lipstick which required a single swipe you need to go over with this a few times to get an evenness of color so to speak. Needless to say it provides full coverage.

     The color stays put for a long time and on me it was providing adequate coverage till almost 6 hours after which it looked like a stain but went off completely after 8 hours of wear time. It survives eating and drinking but at times looks flaky which you need to sort of swipe and pat down with your fingers. The color has been described as a pinky coral but to me it looks more like a pinkish red with slight blue tone to it.

     Definitely an eye catching shade. If you are a matte lover you need to try out this collection and run asap to the store if you want your fav shade. Like I said on the FB page, don some protective gear 😛 So that sums up this review and like always waiting to hear your thoughts. What all have you gotten from this collection or are planning too? This is my limit from it coz in spite of the fact it is not as drying but even a little bit of it makes me uncomfortable and I will wear this with some gloss 🙂 Ciao!
