Lakme recently launched a whole new range of matte lippies called Lakme Absolute Studio Sculpt Lipstick which had the blogsphere buzzing. Few Kolkata bloggers got invited to an exclusive preview of their launch at the Anamika Khanna store before their grand debut at Lakme Fashion Week. I consider myself to be a matte lover in-transition as it is still difficult for me to embrace a true matte formula. Did you know that by design matte products are supposed to suck the moisture from your skin so that they can adhere to it properly and last longer? Well Lakme apparently came out with a new formula that gave you the benefits of a matte lipstick (deep long lasting color) sans its shortcomings (aka drying) and at the same time giving your lips a sculpted effect!

Pretty tall order from one lippy wouldn’t you say. Lets dissect one to find out if it delivers on its claims. Starting with the basics aka the packing…Cased in transparent plastic covering a metal body these lippies stand taller than most and are on the slimmer side. They do give you 3.7 gms of product which is a tad more than the standard 2.5 gms offered by most. You can find the shade name at the bottom. The transparent cap makes it easier to spot the color of the product and get a rough idea about the shade (some look different in swatch). Cap clicks in place and does not open while you carry it around with you.

I like the slanted edge of the lipstick…the sharp edge helps me to line my lips with it as I don’t use a separate lip liner with my lippies. Plum Spell is a red toned plum shade. To put it simply it is a deep red color with a slight blue tone to it. I’m not a fan of blue toned shades but this works for me somehow. The eye is instantly attracted to the lips due to the intense color and well defined shape. One swipe is adequate to cover lips but I prefer a couple to intensify and even out the color nicely. It does tend to sit in the ridges. Quite creamy when you first put it on and as it sets it slowly turns to a semi-matte finish. Slightly drying cause of it. By the 10th kiss (remember the kiss test thing I do – kiss the back of my hand) it fades down to a deep rose shade and looses the slight sheen it had.

But it is pretty tough against eating/drinking and would you believe that it lasted slightly over 8 hours on me?!? It does fade gradually over the day but does not let your lips look bare. Even after 8 hours it left a light tint on my lips. I will point out that my lips felt drier as the day went by which seems a little strange since the product was slowing fading off. It is safe to say that Lakme completely delivers on their claims especially in this shade. The reason I pointed it out is coz all the shades don’t perform equally from what I have seen. This is a great date/evening kind of shade but I would totally wear it in the day too with just some mascara on my eyes. It is just too pretty! Priced at Rs. 700/-. That wraps up my review.
