Summers coolers at Cafe Pranah

Summer Coolers Festival, Cafe Pranah, Kolkata

The moment the temperature amps up I get this huge craving for a tall cool glass of preferably sweet drink. My biggest vice is caving in and indulging in a cola drink which I know is not good for my health but the lack of better options makes this a highly attractive as well as an addicting option. When Rahul (owner Cafe Pranah and Bon Appetit) told me about the Summer Coolers Festival I was super excited coz I knew I was in for a treat. He does the best flavor combinations, putting things together that most people would not even dream of pairing. He has introduced some drinks all naturally made with fruits, flowers and/or spices along with popsicles. The popsicle thing reminded me of my childhood and those long sticks of frozen liquid in different flavors sold outside school and famously know as “pepsi stick” 😀

There are 6 variants in the drinks which are priced at Rs. 139/- each – Bel ka Panna, Gurhal ki Chai (Hibiscus Tea), Panakka, Kokum Sharbat, Lemon Barley Masala and Aam Pora Sharbat. They range from sweet to slightly spicy (not chilly) to tangy and there is something for each taste bud. I personally loved them all and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I feel there is something to fit every mood like how sometimes I crave sweet or the very next day I’m all gung-ho about something salty and spicy. The popsicles too are created in the same manner ie ranging from sweet to tangy. these are priced at Rs. 79/- each and again there are 6 variants – Aam ka Panna, Wild berry and lemon, Watermelon and Mint, Muskmelon and Ginger, Mango with basil seeds and Masala Mojito. I love watermelon and this was the one I devoured first with great relish. This was closely followed with the mango and the muskmelon one. They make up the sweet quotient of the spread…

The remaining flavors are tangy and if you add a bit of rock salt on some of them especially the wild berry you will get a treat which have your tongue watering for more and your mouth smacking in satisfaction. All the treats are crafted without artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners so some have this subtle taste to them which could be contrary to what you must be expecting. In the end they all spell perfect summer bliss! The festival is about to end soon aka the 15th of June so you better head on down there fast. I had one of the most refreshing and fun summer tasting session with a quick trip down the memory lane thrown in. Summer sorted…bring on the monsoons! 😉 See ya around divas!
