Hey there! It has been a hot minute since I decided to put pen to paper (figuratively) and jot down something for my blog. For those of you who follow me on Instagram know how I dabble in different forms of art from making dollhouses to diamond paintings to my newest obsession resin art. I finally decided to launch my artwork under a brand name aka Silver Lioness Arts. I started this year with a lot of hope when I did my first popup/exhibition as an artist. The response was a lot decent compared to what I was thinking…whew! I even launched an Etsy store in hopes of finding customers both near and far…needless to say I was quite excited to start a new journey. But then the pandemic happened and everything came to a standstill..sigh! The Etsy shop has been put on holiday mode indefinitely, the future exhibition was cancelled and my creativity was completely shot due to the stress of the situation…

Silver Lioness Arts

Now that it has been 3 months+ since we have been dealing with the pandemic and life is going back to what is being called the “new normal”. I have started practicing my resin art especially as I can get my hands on the materials once again. Since I am an absolute newbie, as I started it back in Dec ’19, I wanted to document my experiments and experiences with the materials and techniques. I did think about covering it on my Insta account as I create the most content there but some things need a descriptive approach and I don’t think that medium is adequate for it. So I will be covering some of those topics here especially from a beginners perspective. The materials one needs, where to get it from, working with different types of resin, the secret of using the medium, safety precautions, techniques I picked up, etc. are some of the topics that I can start with right off the bat. A lot of material out there is from an International perspective but I want to present things with an Indian view point as the difference in materials and temperature etc plays a role in the final outcome of the piece.

This material aka resin is so organic by nature that it has a complete mind of its own and one cant really predict nor accurately replicate an artwork. That is an aspect that I most enjoy about it to be honest. Not only that it is so versatile that you are only limited by your imagination as to what you can achieve with it! It is very simple to use in a sense for most styles of art but the more complex the design the more technically you need to understand the material to make it work for you. I know I should have probably said this sooner but for those of you who have no idea about resin it is a chemical compound that is liquid when mixed and as it sets over time it turns into a hard plastic like material. Since it is a chemical it needs to be used with certain safety measures and is an absolute no-no around kids. I saw someone giving resin classes for kids and that was so extremely irresponsible especially since as an artist working with the medium we know how dangerous it can be and how many safety measures one has to take before working with it. So the next time you get tempted in letting your kid learn this please insure that they are old and responsible enough plus fully equipped before going anywhere near it. I will be doing a separate post on this topic as well.

I have shared some of my work in the pictures that you see. I have IGTV videos up showing me making a few items which are filled with small tips and tricks that can be of help when you are working on your own. I picked them up through trial and error or by observing other artists so if you are interested in that then check out my Instagram profile here. I also have a quick form to know if anyone is interested in learning this art medium so kindly fill out the sheet so that I can understand what is it that you are looking for and also reach out to you whenever a class is about to go live. Here is the link for that form – Resin Art Form. Please share it with anyone that you might feel would be interested in it. Presently I think I will only keep it for 18+ to be on the safe side. Well that’s a wrap from me 🙂 I will catch you later on what would hopefully be my first post on resin art. See ya soon!
