So in my attempt to finally catch up with my Velvette box reviews today I bring to you my views on the products that I got in my March box. This was a mixed bag of stuff where I got 6 products actually ranging from health to skincare to makeup. This month was dedicated to the festival of “Holi”. Lets take a look at what all was sent.

I got a set of 7 sachets of Meiji Amino Collagen, Lush Dream Cream, Nyx Round Lipgloss in Strawberry, OPI Nail Paint in Vampsterdam, Remy Laure Eye Contour Relaxing mask and Remy Laure Eye Gel. I was so happy to see 2 makeup products in the box. The box smelt just so awesome when I first opened it 🙂 Filled my senses. I found the collection of products quite interesting. Lets pick them up one by one.
Meiji Amino Collagen:

This was a big surprise for everyone and not something that was very well received generally. It is a sachet with contains a white powder apparently derived from fishes. I am a vegetarian but I didn’t mind trying these out. Collagen is an essential requirement for our skin especially to maintain its elasticity and an effective anti aging ingredient. Hey Oprah endorses it apparently and I was completely game to try it out.

According to the instructions it can be mixed in water or in your food to be consumed. I tried it out with water. It is slightly grainy kind of white powder thing. When I dissolved it in water first it turned milky but after a few minutes the water became clear again. There is no taste to it per say. Ok this is a little difficult to explain. You wont feel like a taste on your tongue exactly but there is just something there that you cant put your finger on. And if that does not get to you the smell will. It smells very weird and again is not like in your face kinds but you just know that there is something there.

I think it will be easier for non vegetarians to consume this. I had it for 2 days like that but then I could not bring myself to so I added some Roh Afza rose sherbet to it to make it more tolerable and somehow manged to gulp it down for 2 more days. Honestly have not gone back in since then 😛 But I do want to consume the collagen thing for its benefits especially coz as a vegetarian my body does not get the necessary proteins and vitamins that it requires from food.

I do want to mix it in food and see how that goes. So when I muster up enough determination to do that I will let you know. I read some blogs where they said that mixing this with orange juice or lemon water made it more tolerable for them to consume so I will try that out too. Didn’t notice any effects in 4 days but supplements take longer to show you results. Now if this was in a capsule form I would have been all gung-ho about it. Price is Rs. 1800/-

Remy Laure Eye Contour Relaxing Mask and Eye Gel:

I got one sachet each of these products. Being a lazy person I don’t do anything specific for my eyes but decided that with these I just might get into the habit of doing something about it. Starting to get fine lines under my eyes and have had the problem of dark circles since a while. The DNA series is meant for dehydrated skin. The mask is supposed to relax, hydrate, smooth and revitalize tired eyelids. The gel is meant to drain and smooth fine lines around the eyes.

I started off with the mask first which was like a light cream. I would put it all around my eye and leave it for 15 minutes after which I would wipe it off gently with a wet cloth. The mask was relaxing to a degree. After 2-3 days of use I decided to use the gel along with the mask as an after treatment. I used both the products  for about 6-7 days in total. I actually left it in the middle coz I saw these fine bumps developing under my eyes. You know like those skin colored pimple things. I have never gotten that ever in my life and regular use of these products gave me that condition. After discontinuing their use my skin is finally normal now. I’m not sure which of the products actually caused it.

I’m not saying that the products are bad or anything but they did not suit me personally nor did I see any changes/improvements for the duration that I used the products. For people with really dry skin this could work but for people like me who have a combination skin this could prove to be too rich. Not a fan of eye creams as it is. So needless to say this is not something that I will be willing to look into again at least not from this brand. Price is Rs. 1960/- for the mask and Rs. 2194/- for the gel.

Lush Dream Cream:

I was so happy to see a Lush product again. Second one that has come in the box in all this time. I love the cute tin packing and smell of it just filled the box and made it such a pleasure to open. Some of the product had leaked a little (just a tad) and made it a little difficult to open the lid. But I managed it in the end somehow 😛 A nice light cream texture with a slight yellow tinge to it.

The smell is so nice but I cant pinpoint the exact tones in it. I can smell a little citrus and spice in it. Very pleasing. The cream is very moisturizing and rich. Even though the cream gets absorbed into the skin I got a feeling of a slight film on my skin within a few minutes. Since it is quite rich given the present weather conditions I’m storing this away for the winters coz I think it will be excellent for then. God I feel like a little critter storing away nuts for the winter season 😛 Price is Rs. 1460/-

NYX Round Lipgloss Sparkle in Strawberry:

This is a very light pink gloss with silver shimmer in it which on the lips looks like light tint. It makes the lips look rosy and adds this touch of shine and sparkle to it. Since it has no pigmentation of its own and hence offers no coverage for someone like me who has pigmented lips I would prefer layering this over lippies especially on the center of my mouth.

Comes in a plastic tube like packing which is transparent and has a black cover. The applicator is slanted tip one which is slightly narrow. The texture is quite nice and did not feel tacky/sticky to me at all but since it is a gloss it does not survive for too long on the lips. Though I quite like the color but since it is too light to offer some pigmentation on its own I would not be buying this again. But since I like the look of the finish and the overall texture of the product I will look into more shades from this range provided they have decent amount of coverage. Price is Rs. 300/-

OPI Nail Paint in Vampsterdam:

I love the cute little bottle that the sample came in. It is so tiny and adorable 😀 Perfect to tote with you on travel. I wish I could buy this size, the usual OPI bottles are quite bulky and heavy. The color is a lovely plum but the texture is kinda off. It goes on streaky on the nails. Two coats were enough to cover my nails but I got a uneven finish as I could make out lines on the surface and patches.

I’m quite surprised to see something like this from a brand like OPI. I have bought a couple of shades from them in the past but never had this issue before. Wonder if it is due to the piece I got or coz it is a sample?  There was slight fraying on the edges by the 2nd day and I had to change my paint by the 4th. Price is Rs. 520/-

With that I conclude another box from Velvette. So glad that I got another one down. This was an interesting box and I liked the mix of products especially the Amino collagen and the Lush cream. The others were ok and not very “inspiring enough to merit purchase” kinds. So what all did you like from your March box? Is there anything that you are looking to purchase from it? Please leave your thoughts and comments. As always I look forward to reading them. Catch you later – Bye!
