Aamlicious Festival at Rajdhani, Park Street, Kolkata

As soon as the summers set we would eagerly await the time when mom would fill the freezer with her  containers of Aamras milkshake and kulfi. My dad had his separate boxes of both which we kids were not allowed to touch 😀 “My wife has made them for me” would be the answer each time. I think he would be more excited about this ritual than us coz before the food would get half a chance to cool down or set my dad would be through it already 😀 Isnt it strange how something so simple can evoke so many memories of the past? Well here is a chance for you to relive your favorite summer memories as Rajdhani is hosting an “Aamlicious” festival till the 15th of June 2016. They are serving different dishes each day of the week and this is available for both their lunch and dinner thalis. Rajdhani has always been one of my favorite Thali restaurants and they just made things whole lot sweeter 🙂

You can look forward to dishes like Kairi Chana Dal Dhokla, Kairi Samosa Sabzi, Mango Kofta Pulao, Malabari Mango Kadhi, Mango Pachadi, Mango Raita, Fajeto, Aamrakhand, Mango Jalebi, Aamras, etc. On weekdays the lunch thali costs Rs. 399/- while the dinner one is for Rs. 425/- and weekends both are for Rs.425/-. These prices are inclusive of taxes. A few of us were invited to sample the new dishes over lunch. In each meal they serve 3-4 mango based dishes while the rest is standard fare. I got to try the Curry, Boondi and Kairi Raita, Kairi Samosa, Aamras, Mango Lassi, Aampanna and Mango Jalebi. I loved the raita! Im a huge boondi raita fan and with the raw mango pieces thrown in with the hint of curry flavor it was quite a unique treat. I have never liked Aampanna but there’s was quite different and for the first time I found myself relishing the drink. As someone commented it felt more like golgappa water rather than the more traditional drink. The Mango lassi too was a big hit among everyone.

Have you ever tried dipping your parantha/roti or even pappad in aamras? Trust me this combination is something that you must try. There were just so many tempting things laid out before me that I had a tough time deciding where to start from and where to finish! Would you believe that I even tried laukhi halwa!?! I think my mom would probably faint if I tell her this 😛 But as always Rajdhani served some amazing food with some homely hospitality. Head on down there with your family and share your favorite stories from childhood over a lovely meal. I will see you soon…
