Restaurant Week India (RWI) is back and with it comes some great offers from some of the best restaurants across 6 cities! For 900 +taxes (in Kolkata) you can sample some of the signature dishes that these restaurants have to offer. The rates differ from city to city and also some have different rates for lunch and dinner. Running from the 16th to the 25th of September, you can log onto to their website to check out the menus of the participating restaurants and book yourself a seat. There is a small booking charge of Rs. 60 per person. Ola Prime offers you complimentary vouchers aka trips to and fro from the restaurant for a value upto Rs. 150/- per trip. There is a prefixed menu available for the event across all cities with a 3/5 course meal comprising mainly of the signature dishes. They even have some dishes made especially for RWI but they can come at an additional cost. There are 14 restaurants from Kolkata participating in this event and I got to try out Souk from Taj Bengal. I absolutely adore Mediterranean cuisine so you can imagine how much I was looking forward to my meal…

Souk does not just offer food from Lebanon but has a menu featuring cuisine from 7 countries belonging to that region. Their RWI menu is made up of some of the most popular dishes aka cult customer favorites. Appetizers like Hummus Beiruty and Kolokithi, Main course dishes like Fattir and Vegetable Tangine & Dessert like Rose Petal Ice Cream have been some of the most requested dishes over time. Well it was time to begin the meal…I got to try the Hummus Beiruty, Avocado Zaalouk and Felafil. The avocado dip is really nice and refreshing almost but the hummus is packed with flavor! They have added onions, tomatoes and parsley to spiced chickpeas. It was very easy to see why everyone likes it so much and I have never tasted hummus like this. Definitely the winner for me from the three. The felafil were really crisp and went really well with both the dips.

Baklava and Rose Petal Ice Cream

I had Vegetable Tagine as the main course…couscous served with vegetables, kalamata olives and prunes in tomato sauce. Another dish packed with flavor…I have tried Mediterranean food in Dubai on my recent trip and even didn’t match up to the flavor and taste of the dishes we were served here. The couscous blends in perfectly with the vegetables coated in tomato sauce with the prune adding the slight hint of sweet to balance out the burst of flavor in your mouth. I thought the Tagine had a one up on the Hummus and might just be the high point of the meal…but the best was yet to come! The absolute star of the meal and highly recommended by me is the Rose Petal Ice Cream…made with fresh rose petals I was kinda thinking that it might be a bit bland but it blew me away. At times it even tasted a bit like pan ice cream but milder and it could be the case cause gulkand is usually the main ingredient in a pan. I tried a bit of the baklava which was nice but honestly I ended up ignoring it cause I didn’t want anything to take away from the taste of the ice cream. Pure bliss! What a memorable end to a truly wonderful meal. I had a great time thanks to the Souk and the Restaurant Week India. Book your table with your family and enjoy some great food over some lovely bonding. I have already made some bookings…so I hope to see you around somewhere 😀 Take care!
