So I tried my hand with water decals for the first time….Water decals are like those tattoos that you find with chewing gum and candies and what not that transfer onto your skin by applying water. These follow the basic concept except that you need to dip the paper with the decal on it in water and then place it on the nail. Sounds easy yes? Fool proof? Child’s play? One would think….But OMFG!!! This is such a pain 😛 No I can assure you I have all my marbles with me….I counted….and double checked 😛 You go in and try something with an “adult” frame of mind….how quickly they beat you and have you wailing like a kid! Ok enough with the melodrama 😀 

 

     The problem is that no two decals are made the same….I have these feather ones that I tried 1st. There are 2 layers to a decal paper….well 3 if you count the decal – base white paper, decal print and transparent cover. What one has to do is cut out the decal and immerse it in water for 10-20 secs and then place it on the nail (after wetting it too). Following a logical path and prior water tattoo experience, I removed the plastic cover and dipped the decal in water. I then placed it on my nail and gently pealed the paper. Encountered the beautiful design right….Wrong! I got a white patch in the shape of the decal. The pretty colored part was stuck to my nail…..ARGH!!! I needed to do the reverse with it – peel the white paper and leave the plastic to get the print. 

 

Finally conquered! Queen of the hill people 😀

 

     Thinking this to be the norm I pulled out another decal design (the one you see on my nails). With my new found knowledge I followed the pattern and this time placed the plastic sheet with the decal on it on my nail. Transferred beautiful design on my nail right….Wrong!!! (Can you sense my frustration here) This one was meant to be done the original way – remove plastic and leave white paper. Sigh….tackling codes and bugs is child’s play but doing actual apparent child’s play becomes rocket science 😛

 

 

     Finally I got it right and did all my nails with the pattern. I used Maybelline Color Show in Hooked On Pink for the base and then applied Maybelline Color Show Crystal Clear as the top coat. There is a slight grittiness even after the top coat and I’m guessing it is coz of the pattern. A little smoothness would have given it a nicer finish I guess. Though frustrating I admit I liked the overall effect of it. And I have a few more patterns in stock to try out 😀 They were part of my Born Pretty haul. Do let me know what you think of my efforts.
