Magnum launch event in Kolkata with Soha Ali Khan and Chef Kunal Kapoor

The mere mention of chocolate will make any chocoholics heart skip a beat and when the word “Belgium chocolate” is uttered then it is enough to make one swoon. When I got a call from the Magnum PR about their launch event in Kolkata with a special masterclass with Chef Kunal Kapoor I was raring to go. Soha Ali was going to be the guest of honor for the event. I have been to a few classes earlier taken by renowned chefs so I was expecting something in similar lines. An afternoon of  learning new dishes made by the chef aka a sedated educational affair. The question that came to mind was if it was going to be strictly chocolate based dishes and how would Magnum fit into it all?

You know it was probably one of the most fun events I have been to so far! The entire atmosphere was so relaxed with the MC and chef taking the floor. Even Soha was adorable and chilled out sharing tidbits about her childhood memories. Among the laughs and the leg pulling that went on we were taught about the different kinds of chocolate out there and what makes Belgium chocolate (must contain min. 35% cocoa to even qualify being called by that name) so special. Magnum uses Barry Callebaut which is one of the best chocolates around (I used them too when I was working). Rather Callebaut creates a special chocolate for them which is patented exclusively to Magnum!

I know where the awesome taste came from but I must say hats off to Magnum too for doing the chocolate cover so beautifully. Not only is the layer coating the ice cream really thick but it gives this definitive crackle sound which each bite. Remember in school when we used to have that choco stick ice cream and after the first bite it would crumble and fall all over. Their chocolate stayed put. They have 3 flavors available in it – Classic, Almond and Truffle. I tried the almond version and chocolate layer was full of almond slivers which gave me the feeling that I was munching on chocolate covered praline.

Our parting gift – Tiramasu in a jar and a Magnum shaped pen drive

The chef created a fusion take of the Bengali pancake sweet using traditional ingredients and well as Magnum ice cream for the filling. After that there was make-your-own-sundae contest for all the tables ie the attendees. The evening ended among a lot of giggles and some Magnum in our bellies 😀 Btw you can get our own now where ever there is a Kwality Walls vendor even the neighborhood ice cream van. Priced at Rs. 90/-. So head on down and give yourself a royal treat this summers! I will catch you soon…
