Lime Crime Velvetines

If you have been following international bloggers or vloggers then chances are that you have heard about this brand and especially Lime Crime Velvetines. You would have heard people raving about it especially the original or the 1st launch which was Red Velvet. Every matte lover would covet one and even the matte averse people wanted to know what the charm was about. The success of the 1st color made the brand launch a 2nd color in it which was Suedeberry. And now after the grand success of those comes the latest entrant to the family – Pink Velvet.

Lime Crime Velvetines

Lime Crime does ship to our country which is a great thing and mostly the velvetines are sold out on their site. So you need to stalk them till the time you don’t get lucky. The shipping rates were quite reasonable and I paid around $11 for 5 products. In the recent Black Friday sale they were giving 30% off site wide and I grabbed the chance to finally get myself these. Though as you know that I’m not a fan of matte texture but given the craze and hype behind these I just had to get them and seeing that all 3 shades were available I picked them up. So this is a combined review for all 3 shades.
What Does Lime Crime Say About It?
“Lip stain that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, long-wearing, and utterly addictive!”

Packing

Lime Crime Velvetines

It comes in a standard lipgloss like tube. Almost 3 inches in length where 2/3 of the body is made of transparent matte plastic while the cap is a metallic matte red with roses on it in pink. The carton that it came in also had the same theme. Very pretty to look at and looks like a classy quirky piece. The shade name is given at the base and on top of the cap there is unicorn logo of lime crime. Comes with a standard doe foot applicator.
Texture

Lime Crime Velvetines

When you first put it on it is quite liquidy and spreads easily. It has a lovely vanilla caramel smell to it just like NYX lip creams. It takes a few seconds for the texture to change and then it transforms to what is called a soft powder matte finish. Once it sets it doesn’t budge. You can touch it and wont come away with any product. Needless to say that it does not transfer at all and does survive eating. But I’m afraid an oily meal might just be its downfall.
Being a matte it is a tad drying on the lips but it does not feel uncomfortable especially once you get used to it. But if you have very dry lips then it is not advisable to use this. As with all matte textures this is unforgiving so make sure your lips are scrubbed and well moisturized. Before applying, ensure that your lips are clean and dry so that the product can adhere to them properly. It does tend to emphasize the lines on the lips a bit. Since it is supposed to be a stain I would suggest that you use an oil based remover to get it off. With an alcohol one it just takes a little longer and lot of rubbing 🙂
Red Velvet Pigmentation

Lime Crime Velvetine Red Velvet

Let’s start from the one that began it all. I think till now this one is everyone’s fav and most bought. A gorgeous deep red shade which is bound to catch someone’s eye from across the room. Lime Crime calls it a velvety Rose Red and I would have to completely agree with them! A color that lends elegance and sophistication along with that touch of sizzle. Think of old Hollywood….maybe Marilyn Monroe. Containing slight blue tones it provides full coverage. I can definitely see why this is so sought after and I know 2 chicas who will want this so bad 😀 (you know who you are).

Suedeberry Pigmentation

Coming to the 2nd color to be launched. Lime Crime calls it a Strawberry Red shade but to me it looks coral. I have seen swatches for it where it looks very pink-red but on my skin it looked more towards orange. It is supposed to be the sheer one from the lot so I guess that is the reason for color difference. When I put it on it looked like a darker tone of coral ie more orange and since my upper lip is darker than my lower one I could make out the color difference. I didn’t really like what I saw and then tried it after concealing my lip color. The overall color was much better and quite similar to the hand swatch. More suitable for day/daily wear it does not offer the drama or pizzazz of Red Velvet.

Pink Velvet Pigmentation

Lime Crime Velvetine Pink Velvet

The baby of the family 🙂 This was launched on the day of the Black Friday Sale. A rich fuchsia shade (blue toned pink) which provides a coverage somewhere in the middle of the earlier two. Though it is intense in color and high on drama but if I compare it with Red Velvet it falls a little short. This bold color is not for the weak hearted. If you are not into red then this is the color that you should look into from this line.

My personal favorite of the three was Red Velvet. There is just something about it that you will not be able to take yours eyes off it. If you have to get one then make sure it is that one. A close second is Pink Velvet. Though I’m hugely into coral shades but I didn’t like Suedeberry much and would not recommend it unless you have like even toned pink lips or something. They cost around $20 (Rs. 1236/- approx) for 2.6 ml but I got them for 30% off which is $14 (Rs. 865/- approx). They are totally worth their full price especially Red Velvet. The look, pigmentation and finish is super gorgeous. So…are you tempted yet? 😉
