Hello my loves! Well I wanted this post to start things off for the new year on the blog. But any hoo…better late than never 😛 Well I hope this year brings you all the joy and success in your life. Let’s shed the year that was and step into the new year with hope and love! I will not say bad things about the year gone by as for me personally it was quite good. I only hope that things get better from there 🙂 Travel, food, friends and money are things I look forward too…how about you? What are your goals/wishes for the year? Well I haven’t done a makeup review since forever so I present to you my review for Kylie Cosmetics Metal Matte Lipstick Reign.

Doing a review after a long time so please excuse if I seem rusty. I bought this lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics even after my disastrous introduction to the brand (you can read about my lip kit review here) given my “give-another-chance” policy 😛 Well I will say I bought a couple of things even after this but lets chalk that up to giving into temptation (her birthday collection was LIT) 😀 The metal trend was every where last year…eyes, lips, nails…well it quickly gave way to the glitter trend but not until almost all the the brands have introduced a metallic something.  I bought Metal Matte Lipstick Reign from the brand as it was one of the first ones I came across that was stocking this finish. I paid 18$ (approx Rs. 1,170/-) for it excluding shipping. With shipping it was approximately around Rs. 2,145/-.

From what I understand/read the metal finish is achieved by packing a lot of fine glitter particles in a product. I would describe Reign as a reddish copper shade…actually it looks quite brown on me with a copper sheen to it, quite reminiscent of the 90’s. In the swatches that I saw it looked more reddish but on me it looks more brown. Though it is a pretty shade but it does not appeal to me given the brown tone 🙁 Being a 90’s kid I firmly left this color back in the era it belongs to, never looking back. Even I dont understand at times my aversion for this shade in lipsticks.

But oh well…This does have a matte finish to it but it not a true matte. By that I mean that is quite comfortable to wear and unlike a matte shade is neither drying nor is it, unfortunately, long lasting. Honestly it jumps ship at the first touch of water forget anything else. If I do a kiss test then it does not transfer much but food/drink is it nemesis. I think that the kiss test was the only thing it was put trough given the creator if you catch my drift 😛 It has a strong vanilla scent which smells almost medicinal to me like the Kourt K shade.

Unfortunately for me it didn’t tick any boxes at all 🙁 At least I liked the color of the previous one but this was just not for me. I think it would be a great lipstick topper kinda thing to just add that touch of drama and also to help it last longer. Im sure people who are into this shade category will like a lot. Btw have you seen the vid of the girl out eating in a restaurant and she reapplies her lipstick after every bite? LOL! Well you might just have to do that technique with this one 😀

The thing that I have discovered with Kylie Cosmetics is that their formula is not consistent across a product category. By that I mean not all the lip kits have the same texture, feel, opacity or lasting characteristics. So if you do hear some people complimenting some of the shades chances are it may be true coz I found that her lighter shades have a much better quality than the darker ones. But most of us cant pull that off without looking like we are auditioning for the Living Dead! Lol 😛 Anyways that wraps up this review…do let me know what you think about it. I will see ya around!
