Have you ever noticed that the nail polish “world” is so many times bigger and more versatile than the makeup “world”? The sheer range of colors that you can get your hands on…compared to the regular pinks, reds and oranges of the lipstick section…or even the boggling amount of types/finishes! You can get all sorts of patterns. accessories, embellishments, tools, glitters, sequins, spikes, flocking powder, feathers, decals, etc etc…phew! There is simply no end to it. Compared to it the makeup section is very pale and dull. Think about it…especially for a person like me who loves variety and gets bored with the sameness pretty quickly…the nail polish/art world has enough to keep me occupied and interested for a long time. I present to you the 5 most interesting things (according to me) that were introduced in the nail art/polish world last year. In no particular order…

Spray-on nail paint

Ok hold the phone…spray on nail polish? Really? For some reason it has me jumping for joy and cringing at the same time. Introduced by Nails Inc. you can get these in a can format (only 2 shades available so far) and just spray them on straight up. Ok while the application process is reduced dramatically as you tackle all of them together (yea for that) but the amount of mess that comes with it…ugh! (the cringe part). However Nails Inc did take care of it somewhat as you can wash the paint from your skin with soap and water. Presently these are available in a metallic silver and a soft pink shade. The silver one goes on well and has a good finish while the pink one does not look very good and needs some tweaking of the formula. Well I think this has a lot of promise and I will be keeping my eye on it…who knows maybe it will end up in my collection one of these days 😉

Uber Chic Beauty Mat

This be the bomb! This is a silicone texture mat which is basically your playground for nail art. You can swatch nail polishes on it or make decals by either stamping out prints or just using plain colors. You can make color combinations on it to see what looks good together or basically use it as a work surface. This can be your quote unquote guinea pig for all nail art experiments before you do the real deal on your nails. Definitely worth looking into and something I finally added to my collection.

Peel off bases/cuticle protectors

Talk about a blessing and a half! No more struggling with getting that glitter nail polish off or that horrible cleanup that water marbling calls for. Do you remember the fevistick ads? That look on the kid’s face due to chip-chip (here it refers to stickiness and not the potato chip :P). Well imagine that a ten fold…and you might be somewhere close to the feeling you get due to a mess made by nail polish on your skin and the amount of cleanup it requires to get it off which in turn might end up taking off the nail art you did which caused the mess in the first place. See the vicious circle here? Well you can kiss all of that pain-in-the-a$$ moments goodbye now 😀 I got myself the cuticle protector so far and hopefully soon will lay my hands on the base coat too.

Shattered glass nail art

This caused a literal storm when it was first introduced. This super gorgeous look is super easy to recreate and with something that we have been fooling around with since we were kids. You need some rainbow/pearlescent cellophane paper and you are ready to show off the hottest nail art trend out these presently. There are so many versions out to it and each one looks prettier than the next. This is on my to-do list!

Coffin nails

This is extremely strange and morbid sounding…but people are sorta going crazy about it. You can see all the celebs sport this nail shape. Think of it as a tapered square nail which gives it the signature “coffin” looking shape. I think people went nuts over it when Kylie Jenner showed them off on her Instagram. Oh well! I’m not sure about this one…keeping the strangeness of it to the side I think I would be hard pressed to find someone who can do this perfectly for me (cause I suck at shaping my own nails). So what do think about it?

Well those were some of the trends/tools from the nail polish world that had the internet going crazy over last year. Very interesting and innovative things for sure and a huge reason why I love this segment of the beauty world so much. You can never get bored of it. Though it does end up testing your patience to the max! But quoting the corniest line out there “No Pain, No Gain”! (Yes I saw you cringing…you hate me now…dontcha?) Which ones were you aware about or are a proud owner of? Which ones do you have your eye on? Waiting to hear from you…Catch you later!
