China Glaze Holographic Nail Paint Infra Red

Some brands remain so elusive to us. Especially nail paint/polish ones as getting them from an International site can be quite a challenge since a lot of them have a policy of not shipping it to India. In those times you have to turn to the “mercy” of Ebay where from getting charged a premium, to uncertainty of delivery to the pitiful condition your product might reach you in are some of the things you have to face. I will admit I’m not a fan of Ebay and have, in all my International shopping expeditions, bought once from them. I did not have a bad time but it is just something that I don’t prefer. Have you ever noticed the variation in price between different sellers? Or the astronomical shipping rates? Thanks but no thanks!

My search for China Glaze has been on since quite sometime as you will always hear nail polish fanatics talking about it. Cant tell you how stoked I was to find an Indian site called Beautykafe that sells them. I agree I paid a premium price for them but still it was hassle free procurement (well mostly). Now I’m a happy owner of 3 CG’s. The holographic one I was most excited about as it has been all the rage a while back. And seeing some of the really gorgeous ones featured by blogs really fuels this desire.

Let me describe the thing for you. The bottle is like a dome shape (sort of) made of thick glass material and has a frosted silver color plastic cap. The thickness of the cap makes it easier to grip during application. Brush is standard how you get in most nail paints. The packing looks quite big and sturdy if you compare it with some of the ones that you get out here and it holds about 14 ml of product. The company says that this polish contains nail hardeners in it.

Texture is quite opaque and I think a lot of people might get away with one coat but I needed 2 coats to cover my nails properly. The color is a pretty pinkish purple (magenta) shade. There are shimmer particles present in which are holographic in nature. Have you seen a holographic logo on products? How you can see blue, orange and green shades when you view it from different angles. These shimmer particles do the same thing for the paint. When you view it from different angles you will see shimmers shifting from blue to orange to yellow and back again. Quite fetching really.

Ok now coming to my issues with it. Firstly, I have ridges on my nails so there are a lot of paints which have a certain type of texture which helps to even those out but this was not one of them. For people with the same problem like me should be wary of it or you can get these ridge fillers which can be applied as a base coat. Secondly, the paint is holographic but it is very subtle. You have to look closely to make it out and if someone is just seeing it from a distance they will be able to see just a sheen and nothing else. So it sort of defeats the whole holographic purpose at least for me.

Thirdly and I think the most important thing is the staying power. Which I’m very sorry to say is majorly sucky! The first time I wore it, I applied it on my nails in the evening around 7ish and by 1 pm the next day I could see noticeable fraying on the tips! I was horrified as it was not something I expected from this brand at all. I have tried the other 2 paints from the company in my stash and they are different types than this one but they were not so bad. For something I paid Rs. 617.50/- I expected better performance. I had done some housework that day. I put it on again yesterday in the course of writing this article and have done nothing expect work on the PC and still there is fraying on the tips. Not as much as the last time but it is there.

I’m truly heartbroken coz I had a lot of expectations from my first holographic nail paint. The subtility of the effect and the short wear time were my issues with it. But then it is a personal thing. I will not buy another one from this brand rather search around to get that truly beautiful one. Hope that will happen sometime soon. But I do want to hear from you if you have had a better experience with this product. Have you tried any other polish from this brand? Which ones are your favorite? Do leave your comments below to let me know. Till next time – Ciao!
