KK Fusion
Crunchy sugar cup filled with chanar paye and citric fruits
Valentine Menu, KK Fusion, Kolkata

I absolutely love Chinese food! Anytime and anyday I can indulge in it endlessly. But here is the thing…the Chinese food that I like (quote unquote) is actually the Indo-Chinese version which also can be seen as fusion food. Someone recently said that India does the most and some of the best fusion food. We have a tendency to adopt the finer points of other cuisines and make it our own. I think we can see examples of this in all the international food chains (especially) that have setup shop here. There will be always something catering to the local palate. I recently was invited to sample the Valentine’s day menu at KK Fusion where I was promised some Indo European fusion food.

We got to meet Chef Pradip Rozario who shared with us his stories and experiences when it came to fusion food. He told us tales of his trysts with Bollywood celebs and some politicians, about the fusion food he made especially for them keeping their preferences in mind and how he won over many a skeptic with his flavor combinations. We were promised an exciting and unique menu ahead where local Bengali flavors would be combined with some European elements. In the vegetarian course (it is a 5 course meal) you will get Grilled vegetables in skewers marinated with coriander chutney, Pancake filled with vegetables in Indian spice served with cheese sauce, Vegetable Roulade torkari with seasonal greens and sundried tomato kulcha, Vegetable ala kiev served with vegetable chorchori couscous and dessert is Crunchy sugar cup filled with chanar paye and citric fruits.

In addition to this you can try out mocktails like Mango mojito, Blue Hawaiian, Daiquiri strawberry and Cool mint. The chef surprised us with some additional items like Mexican biryani and serving Aloo Dum with Muri (murmure or puffed rice) in steel tiffin boxes. Everything was served in a unique fashion. My absolute favorite part of the meal was the dessert when these beautiful fruit filled cups were set fire to with the help of some alcohol. The sweetness of the chanar paye was complimented by the sharpness of the alcohol and the tartness of the fruits. A flamboyant end to a nice meal 🙂 From the meal I really liked the unique combination of the aloo sabzi with the muri.

Another one of my favorites was the sundried tomato kulcha course. The entire menu will cost Rs. 1500/- for two people and it contains general portions. I was stuffed and then some by the end of the meal! The ambiance is really nice and it is located just next door to one of the popular “dating” spots in town aka Swabhumi. If you still haven’t finalized your special plans for V-Day and are looking for something different to surprise your loved one with then do check out KK Fusion’s special Valentine’s Day Menu. I will be seeing you around!
