I got a mail from Ginger Claps last week inviting me the attend Black Dog Easy Evenings – Night Fever tribute to Bee Gees. Hearing (rather reading) the word Bee Gees bought in a flash of memory (Ah Ah Ah….). Some good music served old school style! How can anyone say no to that? I checked if my girls were in and then shot them an affirmative. This had all the makings of an interesting and potentially fun evening.

The event was to be held on the 17th of November ’13 at the Calcutta Cricket & Football Club. It has been ages since I attended a music performance/concert for the lack of proper company. I was really looking forward to it. Poorna and I decided to meet around 6:30 pm at the venue as the event was about to take place around 7. Like good girls we arrived on time and after registering went in. I have never been to the place before and it is quite huge. Kolkata has a lot of such clubs and it is quite the thing here. There is an old world charm to these. Some canopies were placed to one side and I think this was a club feature.

The decoration on the tables

We made our way across the grounds towards the stage area. They had setup these round tables with a pretty center piece adorned with candles and flowers for people who would like to stand and enjoy the performance. Towards the stage there were rows of chairs awaiting the guests. On the entire side stretch there were different food counters and bars. We made our way to grab some seats and waited for things to begin. It was quite a wait as people were “fashionably” late and the band came on finally around 8. Me and Poorna filled the gap with a lot of gossip and chit chat 🙂

Night Fever kicked things off with an intro song and then proceeded to belt out one number after the other from the Bee Gees repertoire. Btw Night Fever is a Canadian band and they are very well known for their coverage of Bee Gees songs. One of the singers engaged the crowd with conversation in between the set by telling trivia related to the song that they were going to play. Things started off slow with the romantic tunes being played. Honestly I was a little zapped out as slow songs are not my things and I just wanted the peppy songs to come up so that I could groove. But things picked up soon and then it got really interesting.

And it is about to start…

So many people took to the floor especially those of the older generation and got into the songs. You should have seen the joy on their faces while they danced their hearts out to the songs. Me and Poorna could not sit still for another minute and took to the floor. We boogied the night away to some songs like Stayin’ Alive and Tragedy. By the end so many people were just shaking it out and the crowd was totally into it. Even the band was pumped. So much so that even after rounding up for the night they actually came back and did 2 more songs on the request of the crowd.

Kick off! 😀

I haven’t danced like that in awhile 🙂 It was such an enjoyable event. The music was awesome and the band was really great. We chowed down on some the food that was available and made our way home with a smile on our lips and a hop in our step. We got to see some fire performers just before we walked out. Thanks so much Ginger Claps for that invite. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and look forward to such events in the future. FYI all the images are clickable and by doing so you can see an enlarged version of each. I will see you ladies later – Ciao!
