Shikha Says:

Well my beautiful people as promised here are some home-made beauty recipes for your tresses. Do let me know what you experienced after using them. I have collected these over the years from different magazines, programs  etc. and have not tried out all of them personally.

  • Amla powder
  • Reetha powder
  • Shikakai powder
  • Egg white
Mix well and apply in hair. Wash after 30-40 minutes.
Conditioning (2):
  • Honey
  • Mayonnaise (Homemade and with egg)
Leave in hair for 40 minutes.
Conditioning (3):
  • 4 Tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 Tsp Honey
  • 2 Eggs
Leave in hair for 40 minutes.
Conditioning (4):
  • 1 Grated Apple
  • 1 Tsp Triphala powder
  • 1 Tsp Amla powder
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Lemon juice
  • 2 Tsp Multani mitti
Mix the above ingredients with milk to make a paste. Apply in hair and leave for 40 minutes. Wash out with mild shampoo.
Hair Pack (Nourishment and Hair Fall):
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tsp each Amla powder, Shikakai powder, Reetha powder, Meethi powder, Triphala powder
  • 1 Lemon juice
Keep for 45 minutes in hair. Wash with a mild shampoo.
Hair Pack (Body and Bounce):
  • 2 Tsp Multani mitti
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tsp each Amla powder, Shikakai powder, Reetha powder
  • Tea liquor
Mix above to make a paste. The consistency should be easy to apply ie not too thick. Leave in hair for 40 minutes. Apply this pack twice a week.
Hair Pack (Hair Fall):
  • Olive oil
  • 1 Tsp Honey
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon powder
Mix in required quantity. Apply this pack every alternate day to combat hair fall.
Hair Pack (Repair):
  • 1 Avocado (very ripe)
  • 3 Tbsp Whole egg mayo
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
Mash avocado and mayo together. Stir in the honey. Rub into dry hair and keep for 20 minutes. This pack helps to condition and thickens hair with regular use.

Hair Pack (Bounce):
  • Besan
  • Starch water from cooked rice
Dont throw away the water that you have used to boil your rice in. Mix some besan and make a paste and apply this to your hair. Keep for 20-30 minutes and then wash off.
Treatment (Summer):
Rub a cup of buttermilk (Chaas) onto scalp and keep for 15 minutes. Wash off and rinse hair with water in which lemon juice has been added (lemon rinse). This helps to keep the head cool and the hair nourished.
Treatment (Sheen):
Add a few tea leaves to a glass of water and heat. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime into the strained tea liquor. Apply in hair for 15-20 minutes and shampoo out.
Treatment (Hair Fall):
Grind amlas in lemon juice and rub the mixture on the scalp. Leave in for 15-20 minutes before shampooing. This checks hair fall and will make your tresses longer and blacker.
Tip: When applying a hair pack, try and cover your hair with a shower cap. This will give you dual benefit – 1) this prevents the pack from drying out thus making it easier to wash out the pack and 2) this will trap in the heat generated form your head thereby causing the nourishment of the pack to seep in deeper into your scalp/follicle. If you are like me and cant stand heat on your head then you might want to skip this especially during summers.
