Amrapali has always been synonymous with unique and eye catching silver jewelry. Best known for the tribal/traditional kind of pieces I personally love them for the Victorian and semi-precious stone jewelry that they do. They have been a favorite of the Bollywood brigade since quite a while and now even the Hollywood starlets can be seen walking down the red carpet in their pieces. I don’t know about you but hearing that makes me feel very proud. Did you know that it is the first and only Indian jewelry brand that is available at Harrods? They have recently added to their product line by introducing gold jewelry. Some of us got invited to the opening of their new boutique which is adjacent to their store in Forum Courtyard, Kolkata.

Loved these neck pieces! |
The store front was decked out in flower vines and looked so pretty. Lisa Ray was to be the chief guest for the event so there was a quite a crowd gathering. While we were waiting for her arrival I got browsing the gold pieces that they had. There were the expected traditional pieces on display and some Victorian design too had found its way here. But there were some pieces which were beyond expectation. Use of Minakari, unique manner in which some stones were shaped and used as well as the perfect blend of traditional and contemporary design. Gold jewelry has often this mind set associated with it off being too old fashioned but Amrapali showed some out of the box thinking with their creations and their jewelry would be loved by both young and old. We chatted with the founders Mr. Rajiv Arora and Mr. Rajesh Ajmera as well as Ms. Kamna Saraf (Eastern India Partner) about the history of the brand and the some of the pieces on display.

Posing with Lisa Ray. Dont know why I have that goofy grin 😛 |
Lisa Ray made an appearance in a pink gown with beautiful gold detailing on the end and the mother of all statement necklaces. She spoke about her love for jewelry, her personal preferences when it came to them and other tidbits about herself. She was really friendly and was quite a sport when it came down to the picture taking. Amrapali has done some amazing collaborations with designers in the past and I hope they continue with this trend for their new line. Btw they recently launched a collection called Chandrika which features trendy and quite affordable silver jewelry pieces. I had my eye on some but unfortunately they got sold out on the site 🙁 Will try my luck at the store. So what ha been your favorite jewelry piece from the brand. How excited are you abut their new venture. Waiting to hear back from you guys…See ya soon!
